Terrazzo Tile Cleaning

Tile Cleaning Solutions cleans and restores terrazzo floors in homes, lobbies, and commercial buildings. Terrazzo is made of marble and other chips set in a binder, so it needs stone-safe care to keep both looking good. For a free quote, call 888-294-0404 or fill out the quote form on this page.

Common Terrazzo Problems

Terrazzo is durable, but it shows wear in ways that cleaning alone may not fix:

  • Dull, cloudy surface. Traffic and old cleaners take the shine off.
  • Yellowed wax or coatings. Older terrazzo is often covered in layers of wax.
  • Etching. The marble chips react to acidic spills and cleaners.
  • Stains in the binder. Spills can soak into the cement or resin between the chips.
  • Floors uncovered during a remodel. Terrazzo found under old flooring needs a deep clean and restoration.

Our Terrazzo Cleaning Process

  1. Inspection. We identify the terrazzo and its finish and check the grout and any existing sealer.
  2. Preparation. We protect walls, baseboards, and nearby surfaces. Our technicians can move small, light furniture. We don’t move heavy or fragile items, so please clear those before we arrive.
  3. Coating removal, if needed. We strip old wax and sealers through tile stripping.
  4. Stone-safe cleaning. We clean with pH-neutral products that won’t etch the marble chips.
  5. Honing and polishing, if needed. We remove etching and wear with honing and bring back the shine with polishing.
  6. Sealing. If we seal, allow 24 to 48 hours for the sealer to cure before normal use and mopping.

Aftercare for Terrazzo

  • Allow 24 to 48 hours after sealing before normal use and mopping.
  • Use a pH-neutral cleaner. Acidic and alkaline cleaners damage terrazzo.
  • Dust mop daily in busy areas.
  • Skip wax. It yellows and builds up over time.

How long results last depends on foot traffic, sealing, and daily care. Plan on resealing about every 2 years.
